The Josiah Royce Society (JRS) maintains a grant program whose general purpose is to support projects focused on the life, work, and legacy of Josiah Royce (1855-1916). Projects shall include engagement with Royce’s original contributions to the development of Classical American philosophy, interrogation of his enduring influence, and development of contemporary applications of his thought.
Grant seekers need not be members of the Josiah Royce Society, though membership is generally encouraged and preference will be given to proposals of members.
All proposals for funding must include:
A detailed description of the project.
A complete budget, including all projected expenses and all other sources of funding.
An explanation of how the results of the project will be reported to the Josiah Royce Society’s Executive Committee (e.g., a finished product, a conference session organized by the Society, a written report detailing results).
Grants will typically not exceed $500, though exceptions may be possible.
Proposals will be reviewed by the JRS Executive Committee on a rolling basis.
Proposals should be submitted via email to Mathew Foust, President of the JRS at foustma@appstate.edu and Robin Friedman, Treasurer of the JRS at rnbfriedman@yahoo.com
